MakerSpace Wednesday – Stick Bombs (aka chain reaction)

Home|MakerSpace|MakerSpace Wednesday – Stick Bombs (aka chain reaction)

Wednesday, October 29 – 2:30 to 4:30 pm – all ages welcome. Children 8 and under require an adult helper.

This is an experiment in stored potential energy. You will be putting your energy into twisting the sticks into a “cobra weave.” Tension builds up in the system of woven sticks. When you let go, the potential energy turns kinetic. Fun ensues.

MATERIALS

  • large craft sticks

TOOLS

  • your hands and maybe someone elses
  • safety glasses suggested

VARIABLES

  • time/patience
  • tension
  • length of weave

What else can you weave together like this?
